From her cheesy pizza toasts to her strawberry-glaze smoothies, Hailey Bieber's skills in the kitchen always leave us hungry for more. In the first episode of her YouTube cooking series, "What's in My Kitchen?," on Dec. 14, Bieber shares the recipe for her go-to chocolate-chip protein pancakes topped with whipped coconut cream. As the pancakes cook, Bieber points out that "they're drenched in butter, and there's chocolate." Need she say more?
"I'm not gonna lie — I've outdone myself."Always a fan of quick and delicious meals, Bieber's "sweet and yummy" breakfast begins with some store-bought pancake mix and chocolate protein powder. Next, she adds in a splash of almond milk, vanilla extract, and an egg before stirring everything together with a spatula. Once the batter is smooth, Bieber likes to add a generous scoop of chocolate chips. "I like a lot of chocolate chips in my pancakes," she says. Finally, she uses a ladle to scoop the batter into a buttered skillet and cooks the pancakes for two to three minutes on each side.
When it comes to flipping, Bieber reminds the camera that not all pancakes have to be perfectly round to be delicious, adding that she likes to cook them individually to avoid crowding the pan. "I already messed up my pancake a little bit, but you know what? Perfection isn't real," she says. After making a few testers — because we all know the first one is usually a flop — Bieber plates herself two "gorgeous" pancakes ready to be "dressed up" for brunch.
Once the still-hot pancakes are buttered, Bieber adds a few slices of banana, some freshly whipped coconut cream, and a drizzle of maple syrup to create the "perfect bite." "I'm not gonna lie — I've outdone myself," Bieber says, smiling through a mouthful of pancake. "These are so f*cking good. Honestly, why am I a genius? We f*cked these up, honestly. Yum."
At the end of the video, Bieber shares a few bloopers. She also explains that, when she doesn't have 15 minutes to whip up a batch of pancakes, she likes to make a five-minute protein coffee using an espresso shot and a store-bought protein shake poured over ice. Coffee and pancakes? Don't mind if we do.
