Jeremy Renner Wanted This Actor to Get an Avengers Tattoo, After Mark Ruffalo Opted Out

Jeremy Renner spilled all the secrets behind The Avengers cast's matching tattoos during his visit on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on June 12 — including how the cast tried to convince Mark Ruffalo to join in.

He explained that the original Avengers (Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, and Renner) got the ink from artist Josh Lord to commemorate the time they've spent together over the last decade, and that the tattoo itself includes a little piece of each hero. While the main image appears like the Avengers symbol with an overlapping number six to the naked eye, there's actually an arrow for his character, Hawkeye, a symbol for Black Widow, and if you see the ink from different angles, more significant symbolism appears.

So, why didn't Ruffalo take part in the cast's permanent tribute? Well, according to Renner, he "chickened out at the last minute." Renner admitted he doesn't know why Ruffalo neglected to participate, but he did have someone else in mind when he opted out. Watch the video above to see who Renner thought of. Hint: You'll see him soon in Dirty John.
